Transmission Housing Oil Seal Replacement - Rear

Tools Required

J 45868 RWD Output Shaft Seal Installer


Removal Procedure

1. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft, Differential, and Driveline Support Replacement (Propeller Shaft, Differential, and Driveline Support Replacement) .




2. Remove the output shaft nut.
3. Remove the output shaft flange.
4. Remove the O-ring seal from the output shaft flange.
5. Remove the output shaft flange dirt defector from the output shaft flange if necessary.




6. Remove the rear transmission housing seal from the extension housing using a suitable tool.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the new output shaft seal using the J 45868 .




2. Install the output shaft flange dirt defector to the output shaft flange if previously removed.
3. Install the output shaft flange.
4. Install the O-ring seal to the output shaft flange.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

5. Install the output shaft nut.

Tighten the nut to 113 N.m (83 lb ft).





6. Use a hammer and a punch to crimp the output shaft nut to the output shaft.
7. Check the transmission fluid level. Add if necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement (Transmission Fluid Replacement) .
8. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft, Differential, and Driveline Support Replacement (Propeller Shaft, Differential, and Driveline Support Replacement) .
