Rear Shield Cover Gasket Replacement

Removal Procedure






Important: Place collecting pan underneath-transmission fluid will escape.


1. Remove the end shield cover.

Important: If necessary, release the end shield cover by striking it gently with a rubber mallet.


2. Remove the 9 bolts.
3. Only for metal cover with separate seal, remove the end shield cover seal.

Important: Replace damaged components.


4. Inspect all the components for damage.
5. Clean sealing surfaces.
6. Remove sealant residues.



Installation Procedure






Important: Note close tolerance bolts.


1. Only for metal cover with separate seal, attach the end shield cover seal.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

2. Install the end shield cover to transmission housing with a new gasket.

* Tighten the 4 bolts M7 to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
* Tighten the 5 bolts M8 to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).


3. For plastic cover with integral seal, attach a new end shield cover.

* Tighten the 4 bolts M6 to 8 N.m (70 lb in).
* Tighten the 5 bolts M8 to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).


4. Inspect transmission fluid level. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Seal Replacement (Front Wheel Drive Shaft Seal Replacement) .
