Crankshaft Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the engine. Refer to Engine Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
2. Remove the manual transmission from the engine. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Transmission Only) (Transmission Replacement (Transmission Only))Transmission Replacement (Engine and Transmission) (Transmission Replacement (Engine and Transmission)) .
3. Remove the automatic transmission from the engine with the torque converter. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Engine and Transmission) (Removal and Replacement)Transmission Replacement (Transmission Only) (Removal and Replacement) .
4. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc. Refer to Clutch, Pressure Plate, and Pilot Bearing Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Remove the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Engine Flywheel Replacement) .
6. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair) .
7. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Service and Repair) .
8. Remove the oil pump module.
Important: Note the different screw lengths.
* Remove the 8 bolts (1, 2).
* Remove the gasket.
9. Identify all the con-rod bearing caps (1).
10. Remove the con-rod bearing caps 1 and 4 (1).
Remove the 4 bolts.
11. Turn the crankshaft through 180 degrees.
12. Remove the con-rod bearing caps 2 and 3 (1).
Remove the 4 bolts.
13. Identify the crankshaft bearing caps.
14. Remove the crankshaft bearing cap (1).
Remove the 10 bolts.
15. Remove the crankshaft.
16. Remove the crankshaft bearing clips.
Installation Procedure
Important: Inspect the installation position.
1. Install the crankshaft bearing clips.
Oil bearing clips.
2. Install the crankshaft.
Important: Inspect the installation position.
3. Install the crankshaft bearing caps 1-4.
* Oil bearing clips.
* Install the 8 bolts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .
Important: Inspect the installation position.
4. Install the crankshaft bearing cap.
* Apply the adhesive sealing compound (black) to the grooves of the rear crankshaft bearing cap.
* Install the 2 bolts.
5. Tighten the crankshaft bearing cap.
Use new bolts.
Tighten the 10 bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft) plus 45 degrees plus 15 degrees.
Important: Inspect the installation position.
6. Install the con-rod bearing caps 2 and 3.
* Oil bearing clips.
* Renew the bolts.
Tighten the 4 bolts to 35 N.m (26 lb ft) plus 45 degrees plus 15 degrees.
7. Turn the crankshaft through 180 degrees.
Important: Inspect the installation position.
8. Install the con-rod bearing caps 1 and 4.
* Oil bearing clips.
* Install new the bolts.
Tighten the 4 bolts to 35 N.m (26 lb ft) plus 45 degrees plus 15 degrees.
9. Replace the crankshaft seal ring (rear). Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Replacement (Service and Repair) .
Important: Note the different screw lengths.
10. Install the oil pump module.
Replace the gasket.
Tighten the 8 bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
11. Seal Ring - Front Crankshaft, Replace. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement (Service and Repair) .
12. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Service and Repair)
13. Install the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Engine Flywheel Replacement) .
14. Install the pressure plate and clutch disk. Refer to Clutch, Pressure Plate, and Pilot Bearing Replacement (Service and Repair) .
15. Replace the drive belt drive gear.
16. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair) .
17. Install the automatic transmission in engine with torque converter. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Engine and Transmission) (Removal and Replacement)Transmission Replacement (Transmission Only) (Removal and Replacement) .
18. Install the manual transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (Transmission Only) (Transmission Replacement (Transmission Only))Transmission Replacement (Engine and Transmission) (Transmission Replacement (Engine and Transmission)) .
19. Install the engine. Refer to Engine Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
