Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Circuit/System Description

The radio supplies 4 audio signals to 4 individual speakers or an amplifier if equipped.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The radio is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The radio sets a current status for this DTC when a short to ground, short to voltage or an open is detected on any of the 4 speaker input signal circuits between the radio and speakers or radio and amplifier (if equipped).

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

No sound is present from one or more of the speakers.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The fault condition is no longer present.

Circuit/System Verification

All speakers should function properly and the DTC does not reset.

Circuit/System Testing

Important: Verify the DTC is current before performing this diagnostic

W/O Amplifier

1. Test the suspect audio output signal circuit from the radio to the speakers for an open short to ground or short to power.

If all circuits test normal, replace the radio.

With Amplifier

1. Disconnect the amplifier harness connector containing the audio output signal circuits (from the radio).
2. Turn ON and operate the radio. Center the fade and balance adjustments on the radio.
3. At the amplifier harness connector, With a DMM verify there is 5-6 volts across all of the (-) and (+) audio output signal circuits (from the radio).

If the voltage is not within the specified range on one or more audio input signal circuits test / repair short to B+, short to ground, open on the suspect audio output signal circuits or replace the radio.

If the voltage is within the specified range on all audio output signal circuits replace the amplifier.

Repair Instructions
