DTC B1015

DTC Descriptor

DTC B1015 00
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Information Error

Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Circuit/System Description

When the ignition is turned ON, the instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives and stores the first vehicle identification number (VIN) from the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends serial data messages to the IPC with the VIN information. The IPC will compare the VIN received to VIN stored in memory. If the VIN stored in memory does not match the VIN transmitted by the BCM, the IPC sets a DTC.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The ignition is ON.
* Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

* The IPC detects that the stored VIN and the sent VIN from the BCM do not match.
* The VIN stored in the BCM does not match that of the vehicle.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* The Service Vehicle Soon indicator is illuminated.
* The IPC displays the failure information in the Failure Records in the scan tool.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The DTC becomes history when the conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present. The VIN that is stored in the IPC matches the VIN stored in the BCM.
* The IPC receives a clear code command from the scan tool.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition ON, scan tool installed, verify that DTC B1015 is a history code and verify that there is no VIN mismatch with the BCM, object alarm module and the vehicle VIN.

If any VIN mismatch exists, program the module with the correct VIN.
