Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
FUEL INJECTOR REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the fuel rail.
CAUTION: Do not allow smoking or the use of open flames in the area where work on the fuel or EVAP system is taking place. Anytime work is being done on the fuel system, disconnect the negative battery cable, except for those tests where battery voltage is required.
NOTE: Use care in removing fuel injectors to prevent damage to electrical connector pins on fuel injector and nozzle. The fuel injector is serviced as a complete assembly only. Since it is an electrical component, it should not be immersed in any type of cleaner. Support the fuel rail to avoid damaging other components while removing fuel injector.
2. Slide the fuel injector retainer clip off the fuel injector.
3. Remove the port fuel injector assembly and plug the fuel injector port.
IMPORTANT: Clean the fuel rail prior to removing the fuel injector.
4. Remove the fuel injector O-rings and discard.
IMPORTANT: Any time the fuel system is opened for service, the O-ring seals used with related components must be replaced.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Lubricate the new fuel injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil and install on the fuel injector assembly.
2. Install the clip onto the injector prior to installing the injector to fuel rail.
3. Install the port fuel injector assembly into the fuel rail, with the fuel injector electrical connector facing upward.
4. Install the fuel rail assembly.
IMPORTANT: Press the injector into fuel rail until it clicks into the retainer clip.
