Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor harness connector.

CAUTION: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

3. Raise the vehicle.
4. Remove the CKP sensor attachment bolt and remove the sensor. Make sure the O-ring is removed.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Make sure the O-ring is on the CKP sensor and lubricate the O-ring with mineral oil based grease.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the CKP sensor and the attachment bolt.

Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Connect the CKP sensor harness connector. Push the connector in until the lock position is felt, then pull back to confirm engagement.
