48. Oil Pump Installation

Oil Pump Installation

^ Tools Required
- J 35268-A Camshaft Front Main Seal Installer
- J 42065 Crank Hub Holding Tool
- J 42098 Crank Hub TORX Socket

Important: Do not cover and/or restrict gasket openings with excess sealant.





1. Coat the pump side of the crosshatched area, shown in the illustration, of the new oil pump gasket with a thin, even coating of anaerobic sealant LOCTITE 518 or equivalent.
2. Install the oil pump gasket.





3. Install the oil pump and align with the guide pins. Ensure that the mating surface is clean and free of oil or grease.






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Apply LOCTITE 242 thread sealant or equivalent to the oil pump bolts and install the bolts.
^ Tighten the oil pump bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).





5. Install the oil pump collar.
6. Install the front main oil seal. Coat the lip of the front main oil seal with a small amount of clean engine oil to aid in the installation.
7. Use the J 35268-A to install the front main oil seal in place. Ensure the front main oil seal is fully and evenly seated.
8. Install the crankshaft drive gear.
9. Install the new crankshaft drive gear bolt.





10. Install the J 42065 to hold the drive gear and tighten the bolt using the J42098.
10.1. First Pass
Tighten the crankshaft drive gear bolt to 250 Nm (184 ft. lbs.).
10.2. Second Pass
Plus 45°
10.3. Final Pass
Plus 15°






Notice: The oil pump bolts must be re-tightened after the generator mounting bolt has been tightened to specifications to allow for uniform compression of the oil pump gasket.

11. Temporally mount the generator and install the generator lower mounting bolt (3).
^ Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
12. Tighten the oil pump bolts in sequence.
^ Tighten the oil pump bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
13. Remove the generator bolt and the generator.
