Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair
CAMSHAFT DRIVE SPROCKET REPLACEMENT (IN-VEHICLE)TOOLS REQUIRED
- J42069 Timing Belt Alignment Kit
- SA9140E Torque Angle Gauge
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove front timing belt cover.
4. Remove timing belt.
IMPORTANT: As a precaution, rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise to 60 degrees BTDC position to prevent valve/piston contact.
5. Insert Timing Belt Alignment Kit J42069-1 and J42069-2 Camshaft Locking Tools into appropriate camshaft gears to hold gears in place while removing camshaft bolt.
6. Remove camshaft gear bolt.
7. Remove camshaft gear and discard camshaft gear bolts.
INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT: Install alignment pin in the correct, numbered, alignment slot on camshaft gear.
1. Install camshaft gear.
NOTICE: Use a new camshaft gear bolt. The required tightening method will stretch the bolts to its yield point, therefore, the bolt is not reusable.
2. Install camshaft gear bolt.
- Use timing belt alignment kit J42069-1 and J42069-2 to hold camshaft gear and camshaft in place while tightening camshaft gear bolt.
- Use Torque Angle Gauge SA9140E to tighten camshaft gear bolt.
Torque:
Camshaft Gear Bolt: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)+ 60 degrees + 15 degrees
3. Turn crankshaft clockwise back to TDC.
4. Install timing belt.
5. Adjust timing belt.
6. Install front timing belt cover.
7. Install air cleaner assembly.
8. Connect negative battery cable.
Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)
