REAR COVER

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.

REMOVAL
1. Position vehicle on hoist and raise vehicle.





2. Remove left front wheel and tire assembly.





3. Drain transaxle lubricant by removing transaxle drain plug (1).





4. Remove rear cover bolts and rear cover. Discard gasket.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean gasket surfaces. Mating surfaces must be clean and dry.
2. Install rear cover gasket.

IMPORTANT: Clean rear cover fasteners before installation.

3. Install rear cover and bolts. Torque using a crisscross pattern.
Torque:
Rear Cover-to-Transaxle Bolts: 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors. Failure to do so can cause wheel bolts to loosen in service.





4. Position wheel onto hub.
5. Install wheel bolts and tighten in a star pattern.
5.1. Hand tighten all five wheel bolts.
5.2. Use a torque wrench to tighten wheel bolts using a star pattern.
Torque:
Wheel Bolts (Initial Torque): 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.)
5.3. Use a torque wrench to final tighten wheel bolts using a star pattern.
Torque:
Wheel Bolts (Final Torque): 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)





6. Clean and apply thread sealant (P/N 21485278) to the transaxle drain plug (1) and install.
Torque:
Transaxle Drain Plug: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
7. Remove transaxle level plug (2) and, using a funnel with a flexible spout or a quart bottle hand pump, add manual transaxle lubricant (P/N 21018899) until fluid begins to flow out of level plug opening.
8. Clean and apply thread sealant (P/N 21485278) to transaxle level plug and install.
Torque:
Transaxle Level Plug: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
