Disassembly

DISASSEMBLY

CAUTION: SPRING IS UNDER A HIGH COMPRESSIVE LOAD. DO NOT REMOVE THE STRUT SHAFT UPPER SUPPORT NUT WITHOUT FIRST RELIEVING THE UPPER AND LOWER SPRING SUPPORTS OF SPRING PRESSURE, USING THE PROPER SPRING COMPRESSING TOOL.





1. Mount carrier Strut Spring Compressor SA9155S (or equivalent) in holding fixture.
2. Mount strut assembly to spring compressor using Strut Compressor Adapter SA9155-3.
3. Compress spring enough to completely unload upper spring supports.





4. Remove shock absorber shaft nut using a wrench, while holding the shaft with a socket.





5. Release spring compressor and remove carrier assembly.
6. Remove rear suspension support and inspect inner and outer shock absorber bumpers for cracks or deterioration. Replace if necessary.
7. Inspect bumpers for cracks and deterioration. Replace if necessary.
8. Inspect rear spring upper insulator.
9. Extend and retract strut shock absorber and check for smooth, even resistance.
