Seat Belt Height Adjuster: Service and Repair

FRONT SEAT SHOULDER BELT HEIGHT ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY

LEFT SIDE SHOWN, RIGHT SIDE SIMILAR

REMOVAL




1. Place height adjuster to lowest position.
2. Remove center pillar weatherstrip/cover to expose adjuster attaching fasteners.

NOTE: Care must be taken not to drop fasteners in center pillar structure.




3. Remove shoulder belt height adjuster fasteners.

On 2000 MY Vehicles Only




4. Starting at the top, pull inward to partially remove center pillar upper and lower trim moldings.

On 2001 MY Vehicles Only




5. Starting at the top, pull inward to partially remove center pillar upper and lower trim moldings.




6. Pull on height adjuster to disengage attaching clip.




7. Pull on height adjuster to release pin and remove from height adjuster.




8. Temporarily install height adjuster onto center pillar. Hand tighten fasteners.

On 2000 MY Vehicles Only




9. Remove shoulder belt fastener from height adjuster.

On 2001 MY Vehicles Only

10. Remove shoulder belt fastener from height adjuster.

NOTE: Care must be taken not to drop fasteners in center pillar structure.




11. Remove fasteners and remove height adjuster.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: APPLY LOCTITE 242(R) (OR EQUIVALENT) ON ALL RESTRAINT FASTENERS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.




1. Temporarily install shoulder belt height adjuster to center pillar. Hand tighten, but do not torque fasteners.




2. Install top of shoulder belt assembly to height adjuster with shoulder belt fastener.

Torque:
Shoulder Belt-to-Height Adjuster Bolt: 29 N.m (21 ft-lbs)

NOTE: Care must be taken not to drop fasteners in center pillar structure.




3. Remove height adjuster fasteners and remove height adjuster from Center pillar.




4. Align height adjuster lower hole to hinged retainer clip and snap adjuster into clip.




5. Align height adjuster upper retaining pins into slider assembly and snap adjuster into place.




6. If shoulder belt has come off belt guide, install shoulder belt behind shoulder belt guide.

On 2000 MY Vehicles Only




7. Position center pillar lower and upper molding (with height adjuster attached) to center pillar. Height adjuster fasteners will protrude through holes in center pillar. Snap moldings into place by pushing at clip locations.

On 2001 MY Vehicles Only




8. Install upper B-pillar molding and fastener, then install plug.

Torque:
B-Pillar Fastener: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)




9. Install height adjuster fasteners.

Torque:
Height Adjuster Fasteners: 35 N.m (26 ft-lbs)




10. Install center pillar outside weatherstrip.




11. Position door weatherstrip over center pillar molding.
12. Function shoulder belt height adjuster for proper operation.
