64. Upper Oil Pan Installation

Upper Oil Pan Installation

Important:Sealing surfaces need to be clean and dry.
- Use care when applying the sealant, not to carry over sealant to the bolt holes.

1. Apply a 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of silicone sealing compound, GM P/N 12346286 or equivalent, around the upper oil pan.

Important: Installation of the upper oil pan must be carried out within 5 to 10 minutes of applying the sealant.

2. Apply a 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of sealant to the joints of the rear crankshaft bearing cap.

3. Install upper oil pan.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the upper oil pan bolts. Tighten the upper oil pan bolts to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
