Oil Cooler: Service and Repair
OIL COOLER REPLACEMENTREMOVAL
1. Remove intake manifold and spacer.
2. Remove coolant bridge.
3. Remove oil feed line from engine oil cooler.
4. Remove return line from engine oil cooler.
5. Take note of the four seals.
6. Remove engine oil cooler line clamp.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED. MAKE SURE HOIST DOES NOT CONTACT FUEL OR BRAKE LINES.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove crank sensor bolt.
9. Remove crank sensor.
10. Remove oil filter housing.
11. Remove oil feed line from the engine block.
12. Remove return line from the engine block.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Remove oil feed line.
15. Remove return line.
16. Remove engine oil cooler inlet and outlet nuts.
17. Remove engine oil cooler cover bolt.
18. Remove engine oil cooler cover.
19. Remove engine oil cooler.
20. Clean the sealing surfaces.
INSTALLATION
1. Install engine oil cooler and O-rings.
2. Apply a 2 mm (5/64 inch) bead of silicone sealer Loctite 5900 (P/N 21019581), in the groove around engine oil cooler cover.
3. Install engine oil cooler cover.
4. Install engine oil cooler cover bolts. Torque in sequence shown.
Torque:
Engine Oil Cooler Cover Bolt: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
5. Install engine oil cooler inlet and outlet nuts.
Torque:
Engine Oil Cooler Inlet and Outlet Nut: 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
6. Install oil feed line.
7. Install return line.

8. Raise and support vehicle.
9. Install oil feed line to the engine block.
Torque:
Oil Cooler Feed and Return Lines to Engine Block: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
10. Install return line to the engine block.
Torque:
Oil Cooler Feed and Return Lines to Engine Block: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
11. Install oil filter housing.
12. Install crank sensor.
13. Install crank sensor bolt.
Torque:
Crankshaft Position Sensor Bolt: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
14. Lower vehicle.
15. Install oil feed and install return lines to engine oil cooler. Use four new seals.
Torque: Oil Cooler Feed and Return Lines to Engine Block: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
16. Install engine oil cooler line clamp.
17. Install coolant bridge.
18. Install intake manifold and spacer.
19. Check and fill engine oil as necessary.
