Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

VALVE LIFTER REPLACEMENT
(IN-VEHICLE)

- TOOLS REQUIRED
- J3526SA Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove intake manifold.





4. Remove relevant camshaft cover.





5. Remove front timing belt cover.
6. Remove timing belt.
7. Remove relevant camshaft gear(s).
8. Remove relevant camshaft(s) with seal attached.





9. Remove lifter(s). Use magnet to lift out lifter(s). Place lifter(s) in rack sequentially so they can be reinstalled in their original order if lifter(s) is/are to be reused.

INSTALLATION





1. Lubricate lifter(s) with clean engine oil.
2. Install lifter(s) in their original position if not replaced.





3. Install relevant camshaft(s).





4. Coat lip of camshaft seal with a small amount of clean engine oil to aid in installation.
5. Use Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer J35268A to install seal.
6. Ensure that camshaft seal is fully and evenly seated.





7. Install relevant camshaft gear(s).





8. Install timing belt and adjust timing belt.
9. Install front timing belt cover.





10. Install relevant camshaft cover.





11. Install intake manifold.
12. Install air cleaner assembly.
13. Reconnect negative battery cable.
