Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
PARK BRAKE SHOESREMOVAL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove rear wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove rear rotor.
4. Remove upper and lower return springs from park brake shoes.
5. Remove park brake shoe hold down retainers.
6. Remove park brake shoes and adjuster.
INSTALLATION
1. Coat adjuster with silicone grease at locations in diagram.
2. Attach park brake shoes to back plate with retainer springs.
3. Slightly pull apart shoes and install adjuster.
NOTICE: Check that park brake shoes are properly engaged with park brake lever.
4. Install upper and lower return springs.
5. Install rear rotor.
6. Adjust parking brake.
NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors. Failure to do so can cause wheel bolts to loosen in service.
7. Position wheel and tire assembly onto hub.
8. Install wheel bolts and tighten in a star pattern.
8.1 Hand tighten all five wheel bolts.
8.2 Use a torque wrench to tighten wheel bolts using a star pattern.
Torque: Wheel Bolts (Initial Torque): 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.)
8.3 Use a torque wrench to final tighten wheel bolts using a star pattern
Torque: Wheel Bolts (Final Torque): 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)
9. Lower vehicle from hoist.
