Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair

PARK BRAKE LEVER

REMOVAL





1. Gently pull on left and right side console extensions to remove extensions.

ON POWER WINDOWS:
2. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, gently pry upward on front portion of power window switch to partially disengage switch from console.





3. Disconnect power window switch harness from switch and remove power window switch.





4. Disengage console park brake boot by squeezing side of boot while pulling upward.
5. Lift park brake boot over park brake assembly and remove boot.





6. Remove front console tray by pulling upward on tray assembly.
7. Disconnect console wiring harness from main body harness.

ON AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLES:





8. Pull up on PRNDL cover to disengage cover.

ON 5-SPEED TRANSAXLES:





9. Pull up on shifter boot to disengage boot.
10. Move front seats to forward most position and remove console rear fasteners.
11. Move front seats to rear most position and remove console front fasteners.





12. Gently lift console up and over shifter or PRNDL cover and remove console assembly.





13. Remove park brake adjuster nut.





14. Disconnect park brake warning switch electrical connector.





15. Remove park brake lever-to-floor pan nuts.

IMPORTANT: Keep tension on park brake cable so it does not disengage from equalizer.

16. Carefully remove park brake lever from vehicle while guiding cable through lever.

INSTALLATION
1. Position brake lever into vehicle while guiding park brake cable into the lever.
2. Tighten park brake lever-to-floor pan nuts.
Torque: Park Brake Lever-to-Floor Pan Nuts: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)
3. Connect park brake warning switch electrical connector.





4. Install park brake adjuster nut.





5. Position console into vehicle. Route shifter/PRNDL boot through console opening.
6. Install front console fasteners.
Torque: Console Fasteners (Front and Rear): 2.5 Nm (22 inch lbs.)
7. Move front seats forward and install console rear fasteners.
Torque: Console Fasteners (Front and Rear): 2.5 Nm (22 inch lbs.)

ON AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLES:





8. Snap PRNDL cover into console opening.

ON 5-SPEED TRANSAXLES:





9. Snap shifter boot into console opening.
10. Connect console wiring harness to main body harness.





11. Snap console front tray into console.

ON POWER WINDOWS:





12. Connect power window harness to power window switch and snap switch into place.





13. Install console park brake lever boot.





14. Install console extensions.
15. Adjust parking brake.
