Rear Rotor

REAR BRAKE ROTOR

REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.

1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove rear wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove rear brake pads.





4. Remove brake pipe to rear axle control arm bracket.





5. Remove brake caliper-to-rear axle control arm bolts.
6. Carefully remove brake caliper bending at flexible brake hose only.
7. Using mechanics wire, attach caliper to rear spring.
8. Remove rotor retaining screw.








9. Remove rotor from vehicle.

IMPORTANT: Refer to "Inspecting and Refinishing Brake Rotors".

Installation

1. Position rotor onto hub.





2. Install rotor retaining screw.
Torque: Brake Rotor Retaining Fastener: 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.)

NOTICE: Clean caliper support bracket fasteners thoroughly with brake and choke cleaner (P/N 21007432 or equivalent). Apply Loctite 272 Threadlocker (or equivalent) to caliper support bracket fasteners. If Loctite 272 Threadlocker (or equivalent) is not available, new caliper support bracket fasteners must be used.





3. Install caliper onto rear axle control arm and tighten fasteners.
Torque: Rear Caliper-to-Rear Axle Control Arm: 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)





4. Install brake pipe bracket to rear axle control arm.
Torque: Brake Pipe Bracket-to-Rear Axle Control Arm: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
5. Install brake pads.
6. Bleed brakes.

NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors. Failure to do so can cause wheel bolts to loosen in service.

7. Position wheel and tire assembly onto hub.
8. Install wheel bolts and tighten in a star pattern.
8.1 Hand tighten all five wheel bolts.
8.2 Use a torque wrench to tighten wheel bolts using a star pattern.
Torque: Wheel Bolts (Initial Torque): 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.)
8.3 Use a torque wrench to final tighten wheel bolts using a star pattern
Torque: Wheel Bolts (Final Torque): 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)
9. Lower vehicle from hoist.
