Schematic:

The Transaxle Fluid Temperature (TFT) sensor is a thermistor that varies resistance according to changes in transaxle fluid temperature. The PCM supplies a five volt reference through a pull-up resistor to the sensor, which is connected to ground. When the sensor is cold it has high resistance (high signal voltage at PCM). As the sensor temperature increases, its resistance decreases (low signal voltage at PCM). The PCM uses the signal voltage to determine transaxle fluid temperature. DTC P0714 sets when the TFT sensor signal voltage at the PCM changes too rapidly indicating an intermittent open, short to ground or short to voltage.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0714 will set if TFT sensor voltage changes more than ±0.2 volts (±10°F) in 1 second indicating an intermittent open, short to ground or short to voltage.

Condition must exist twice in the ignition cycle to set DTC.

DTC P0714 diagnostic runs continuously when ignition is On.

DTC P0714 is a type A DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

IMPORTANT: If DTC P0712 or P0713 is set, diagnose that DTC first.

To locate this intermittent problem, use Scan tool to monitor TRANS. FLUID TEMP with ignition On, engine Off. Wiggling wires while watching for a change in TRANS. FLUID TEMP may locate the area where an open, short to ground or short to voltage in the wiring could lie.

This DTC may set due to an intermittent open in the sensor. Use Scan tool Failure Record to determine the temperature of the ECT when the DTC set. Attempt to duplicate the conditions while monitoring TFT temperature.
