9. Final Drive Assembly Assemble

IMPORTANT: The spacer between the two rows of needle bearings must be assembled. In order to aid in the assembly of needle bearings, place spacer and pinion gear onto the planet pinion gear pin.

1. Install pinion gear needle bearing spacer onto planet pinion gear.





2. Place a thrust washer on bottom of planet pinion in order to retain bottom row of needle bearings.
3. Use petroleum jelly in order to aid in assembly and keep needle roller bearings in place.
4. Install needle roller bearings one at a time into planet pinion.





5. Install sun gear-to-final drive carrier thrust bearing onto final drive carrier. Retain thrust bearing with petroleum jelly.

NOTICE: Assemble pinion gears in the same direction pinion gears were removed in order to prevent noise due to changing gear wear pattern.

6. Assemble pinion gear thrust washers and planet pinion gears into final drive carrier.
7. Install planet pinion gear pins into final drive carrier in order to retain planet pinion gears.





8. Install final drive carrier spiral retaining ring in order to retain planet pinion gear pins.





9. Assemble thrust washers onto differential side gears.
10. Install differential side gears into final drive carrier.
11. Assemble thrust washers onto pinion gears. Retain thrust washers with petroleum jelly.
12. With thrust washers attached, install pinion gears into final drive carrier.
13. Rotate pinion gears into position, and install pinion shaft through final drive carrier and through pinion gears.
14. Position pinion shaft in order to allow installation of retaining pin.
15. Install retaining pin through final drive carrier and through pinion shaft in order to retain pinion shaft.
