18. Forward Clutch Disassemble

Tools Required
- J23327 Return Spring Compressor
- J41097-2 Inner Seal Remover-Disc
- J25031-A Puller/Inner Seal Remover





1. Remove snap ring from housing assembly.
2. Remove backing plate.
3. Remove fiber and steel clutch plates.
4. Remove wave plate.





NOTICE: In order to prevent damage to the spring assembly, only compress the return spring assembly enough so that you can remove the snap ring.

5. Compress forward clutch return spring assembly. Use J23327.
6. Remove return spring snap ring.
7. Remove J23327.





8. Remove forward clutch return spring assembly.
9. Remove forward clutch piston and seal assembly.





10. Inspect forward clutch inner seal assembly for damage.
11. If seal is damaged, place J41097-2 on inner hub of clutch housing.
12. Remove seal. Use J25031-A.





13. Inspect housing, plates, bushings, splines, band apply surface, roller clutch race, and spring assembly.
14. Inspect fluid feed holes for obstructions.
15. Inspect exhaust checkball for obstructions.
16. Inspect piston and seal assembly for cut seals or other damage. The piston and seal assemblies are reusable, if not damaged.
17. Clean and dry all components.
