Intermediate/4TH Servo Assembly

REMOVAL





CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST.

1. Position vehicle on a hoist and raise vehicle.
2. Remove oil pan.
3. Remove oil level control valve. Pull valve straight down. Do not pry on valve.
4. Remove oil filter and oil filter O-ring seal. The seal may stay in the case when the filter is removed.





NOTICE: Be careful not to score or damage transaxle case when removing filter neck seal.

5. Using a chisel, indent top of filter neck seal to relax press fit.
6. Remove filter neck seal from transaxle case and discard.





7. Remove intermediate/4th servo assembly bolts.
8. Remove intermediate/4th servo assembly.

DISASSEMBLY





1. Remove piston and pin assembly from servo cover.
2. Remove snap ring from servo pin.
3. Remove piston and servo cushion springs from servo pin.
4. Remove servo piston seals from servo cover.
5. Discard servo piston seals. Do not reuse servo piston seals.
6. Inspect all components for damage.
7. Inspect fluid feed holes for obstructions.
8. Inspect bolt hole threads for debris and stripping.
9. Inspect seal grooves for damage.
10. Clean and dry each component.

ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
1. Install servo cushion springs and servo piston onto servo pin.
2. Install snap ring onto servo pin in order to retain springs and piston.
3. Install new seals onto servo piston and servo cover.
4. Install servo piston assembly into servo cover. Lubricate piston seals with transaxle fluid in order to aid in assembly.





5. Install servo return spring into transaxle case.
6. Install servo cover and piston assembly over servo return spring.

NOTICE: Hand start and tighten servo cover bolts evenly to prevent damage to servo cover bore.

7. Hand start and install servo cover bolts.
Torque: 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)





8. Install new filter neck seal into transaxle case. A large socket can be used as an installation tool. Two mallets can be used as well.





9. Coat filter O-ring with a small amount of petroleum jelly, and install filter into case.

NOTICE: Push straight up on center of valve to prevent damage to case bore.

10. Install oil level control valve.
11. Install oil pan.
12. Lower vehicle.





13. Add DEXRON(R) III (PIN 21019228) transaxle fluid or equivalent to specified refill capacity.
14. Start engine, warm up transaxle, and check for leaks.
15. Check fluid level.
