Rear Wheel Speed Sensor
^ TOOLS REQUIRED- SA9140E Torque Angle Gauge
REMOVAL
The rear wheel speed sensor is contained within the hub/bearing assembly. The sensor is not serviceable separately. To replace a damaged rear wheel speed sensor, the entire hub/bearing assembly must be replaced.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST.
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove rear wheel and tire assembly corresponding to hub being replaced.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from ABS wheel speed sensor.
4. Vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes, perform the following:
a. Remove brake pipe to control arm support bracket.
b. Remove caliper-to-knuckle fasteners.
c. Remove caliper, hang from strut spring with mechanic's wire.
5. Remove drum/rotor retaining screw.
6. Remove drum/rotor.
7. Remove hub-to-rear axle control arm attachment nuts. Discard nuts.
8. Remove hub/bearing assembly.
INSTALLATION
NOTICE: New nuts must be used as torque retention of old nuts may not be sufficient.
1. Install hub and brake shield to rear axle control arm with new nuts.
Torque: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) + 30 to 45°
2. Install brake rotor/drum and tighten retaining screw.
Torque: 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.)
3. On vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes, perform the following steps:
NOTICE: Clean caliper support bracket fasteners thoroughly with brake and choke cleaner (P/N 21007432 or equivalent). Apply thread locker Loctite(R) 272 (or equivalent) to caliper support bracket fasteners. If Loctite(R) 272 (or equivalent) is not available, new caliper support bracket fasteners must be used.
a. Install caliper to rear axle control arm, tighten fasteners.
Torque: 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)
b. Connect brake pipe support bracket to control arm.
Torque: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
IMPORTANT: Be sure that electrical connector is fully seated and latch is engaged.
4. Connect A13S sensor electrical connector.
NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors/drums. Failure to do so can cause wheel bolts to loosen in service.
5. Position wheel and tire assembly onto hub.
6. Install wheel bolts and tighten in a crisscross pattern. Repeat tightening pattern to be sure torque is correct.
Torque: 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)
7. Lower vehicle from hoist.
8. Program EBTCM with correct engine and transaxle options or DTC C0551 will set and traction control will not operate.
