Instrument Panel (IP) - Assembly - Installation



Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement

Tools Required

KM-210 Steering Wheel Puller


Installation Procedure





1. Position the I/P to the vehicle.
2. Loosely install the upper I/P fasteners at the windshield defroster location.
3. Loosely install the I/P fasteners at the I/P cluster location.
4. Loosely install the I/P fasteners at the glove compartment location.
5. Loosely install the I/P fasteners at the left side to beam location.
6. Loosely install the I/P fasteners at the end brackets.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice

7. Tighten all fasteners.

Tighten the I/P assembly to 20 N.m(26 lb ft).





8. Secure the I/P harness to the I/P at the locations where the clips were removed.




9. Attach the electrical harness to I/P at the center outlet location.




10. Install the cluster harness to the I/P




11. Install the I/P cluster into the I/P housing ensuring that the cluster harness is connected. Install and tighten the fasteners.

Tighten the I/P assembly to 20 N.m(26 lb ft).





12. Install the I/P cluster trim plate with the fasteners.

Tighten the I/P cluster trim plate to 2.5 N.m(22 lb in).





13. Position the I/P filler knee bolster to the instrument panel and push at the attaching clip locations to secure the filler to the I/P.




14. Connect the left side A/C outlet switch harness and install the A/C outlet with the fastener

Tighten the A/C outlet to 2.5 N.m(22 lb in).





15. Snap the hood release handle bracket into the I/P.




16. Install the data link connector (DLC) by snapping into the I/P bracket.




17. Install the left side HVAC lower outlet with the retainer.




18. Install the HVAC control head to the I/P and install the fasteners.
19. Tighten the fasteners.

Tighten the HVAC control head to 2.5 N.m(22 lb in).





20. Connect the radio strap spade terminal, electrical connectors, and antenna to rear of radio.
21. Install the radio by sliding it into the guides on the instrument panel.
22. Install and tighten the fasteners.

Tighten the radio to 2.5 N.m(22 lb in).





23. Connect the center trim plate switch harnesses to switches and snap the center trim plate into the I/P.




24. Snap the windshield defroster grille into the I/P.




25. Install the glove compartment bin partially into the opening
26. Secure the BCM to the glove compartment bin slots.




27. Route the glove compartment lamp wiring harness through the lamp opening and connect the wiring harness to glove compartment lamp.
28. Snap the lamp into the glove compartment bin.




29. Install the glove compartment bin to the I/P with the fasteners.

Tighten the glove compartment bin to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).





30. Install the right side heater outlet with the retainer to glove compartment bin.




31. Install the right side lower dash closeout panel (hush panel) with the retainers.




32. Install the glove compartment door with the fasteners.

Tighten the glove compartment door to 2 N.m(18 lb in).

33. Operate the glove compartment lamp and the glove compartment door to ensure proper function.




34. Install the I/P-to-floor pan brackets nuts.

Tighten the I/P-to-floor pan bracket nuts to 20 N.m(15 lb ft).





35. Position the console into the vehicle. Route the shifter/PRNDL boot through the console opening.
36. Install the console front fasteners.

Tighten the console fasteners to 2.5 N.m(22 lb in).

37. Move the front seats to the forward most position and install console rear fasteners.

Tighten the console fasteners to 2.5 N.m(22 lb in).





38. On automatic transmission, snap the PRNDL cover into the console opening.




39. On 5-speed transmissions, snap the shifter boot into the console opening.




40. Connect the console wiring harness to the main body harness located under the front console tray.
41. Snap the console front tray into the console.




42. On power windows, connect the power window harness to power window switch and snap the switch into place.




43. Snap the park brake boot into place.




44. Install the console extensions.




45. Install the steering column trim cover and attachment fasteners.

Tighten the steering column trim cover to 4 N.m(35 lb in).





46. Install the ignition switch bezel.




47. Remove the yellow tab or tape from the SIR coil assembly.
48. Route the wiring through the steering wheel and install the steering wheel onto the steering shaft noting the orientation notch that locates the steering wheel in the correct position.

Important: A new steering wheel attachment nut must be used.


49. Install the new steering wheel attachment nut.

Tighten the steering wheel attaching nut to 40 N.m(30 lb ft).





50. If equipped, connect the cruise control switch connectors and attach the harness to the wheel




51. Connect the inflator module wiring harness and install the connector position assurance (CPA) device.
52. Install the inflator module into the steering wheel. Be sure to seat all four attachment points.
53. Enable the SIR system. Refer to LINK procedure in this service manual.
