Disabling and Enabling the SIR System

SERVICE PRECAUTIONS

CAUTION: WHEN YOU ARE PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR NEAR THE SIR COMPONENTS OR THE SIR WIRING, YOU MUST DISABLE THE SIR SYSTEM. REFER TO DISABLING THE SIR SYSTEM. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE CORRECT PROCEDURE COULD CAUSE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, PERSONAL INJURY OR UNNECESSARY SIR SYSTEM REPAIRS.

DISABLING THE SIR SYSTEM




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove key.
3. Remove IGN1 fuse from under hood fuse block.
4. Remove lower left I/P closeout panel.
5. Push out clips that secure yellow two-way connectors to I/P panel brace.
6. Disconnect both yellow two-way connectors.

ENABLING THE SIR SYSTEM




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointed straight ahead.
2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key.
3. Connect both yellow two-way connectors.
4. Fasten clips on yellow two-way connectors to I/P panel brace.
5. Install IGN1 fuse in under hood fuse block.
6. Turn ignition On and verify AIR BAG telltale operates properly.
7. Install lower left I/P closeout panel.
