Service Manual Update for All of the 2000 L-Series (L81) Engine Service Manuals
MODELS AFFECTED:
2000 L-Series Sedans and Wagons Equipped with 6-Cylinder (RPO L81) Engines
PURPOSE
The purpose of this bulletin is to update the "Timing Belt Installation" procedures in the Mechanical System section of all of the 2000 L-Series (L81) Engine Service Manuals at your location.
Obtain all of the 2000 L-Series (L81) Engine Service Manuals at your location and update as indicated below:
a. Cut and paste directly from this bulletin or photocopy page 2 as needed to update each of the 2000 L-Series (L81) Engine Service Manuals at your location.
b. Follow location instructions on page 2 of this bulletin and update the service manuals.
Revision to page 623 of the 2000 L-Series (L81) Engine Service Manual. Tape or paste the following Notice after step 2 on page 623:
NOTICE:
The upper idler pulley and lower idler pulley use different bolts and spacers of different thicknesses. The upper idler pulley uses a narrow 5 mm (0.20 in.) thick spacer and a black bolt. The lower idler pulley uses a wide 11 mm (0.40 in.) thick spacer and a silver bolt.
Revision to page 628 of the 2000 L-Series (LS1) Engine Service Manual. Tape or paste the following after step 29 on page 628:
^ Tighten both idler pulleys using J-42069-40 alignment tool to hold pulleys while tightening fasteners.
Torque:
Idler Pulley Bolts: 40 N.m (30 ft-lbs)
Revision to page 747 of the 2000 L-Series (L81) Engine Service Manual. Tape or paste the following Notice before the "Timing Belt" heading on page 747. Draw a circle around step 2 and the note below it, then draw an arrow from the circle to the Notice just taped or pasted in:
