44. Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Installation


- Tools Required
- J-41742 Connecting Rod Guide Pin
- J-43953 Piston Ring Compressor

INSTALLATION





1. Install J-41742 onto the connecting rod hole which will allow the guide pin to clear the crankshaft bearing bridge. Only one J-41742 is required to properly align the connecting rod with crankshaft.
2. Install upper rod bearing to the rod.
3. Coat the following components with clean engine oil:
- Coat piston.
- Coat piston rings.
- Coat cylinder bore.
- Coat bearing surfaces.





4. Perform the following steps to install the piston:
a. Position piston with the arrow on the piston head facing toward the front of the engine.

Note: The bump on the connecting rod and cap must face the rear of the block.

b. Use J-43953 piston ring compressor to compress the piston rings.
c. Place piston in cylinder.
d. Lightly tap piston into the cylinder bore while an assistant guide the connecting rod onto the crankshaft.
5. Remove J-41742.





6. Perform the following steps to install the connecting rod caps with bearings to the connecting rod:
a. Install with the bumps on the connecting rod and the cap facing toward the rear of the engine.
b. Coat the bearing surface with clean engine oil.
7. Use new connecting rod cap bolts.
8. Install connecting rod cap bolts.
- Torque: 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.) + 45° + 15°
9. Repeat steps for the remaining pistons.
