The ECM controls the two engine cooling fans via two internal low-side drivers. Both of these control circuits are monitored continuously. If the ECM detects a higher or lower than expected voltage, or senses an open on the fan control relay 2 circuit, this code will set.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0481 will set when:
^ Engine speed greater than 40 rpm
^ Battery Voltage is between 7.5 and 15 volts

DTC P0481 is a (type D) DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
To locate an intermittent problem, use the Scan tool to monitor Fan Control 2 command with engine running.

When fan control 2 commanded state is On, wiggling wires may turn fan on to help locate a circuit fault.
