C0896

SYSTEM HIGH/LOW VOLTAGE
The electronic brake and traction control module (EBTCM) functions properly within a specified range of voltage. During ABS and traction control operation there are current requirements that will cause the system voltage to drop. Because of this, the EBTCM continuously monitors system voltage for a good charging system and for a high voltage that could damage the system.

CODE PARAMETERS
DTC C0896 will set if:
^ Operating voltage falls below 9.4 volts without ABS/traction control operation, or 8.8 volts during ABS/traction control operation.
^ Operating voltage is above 17.5 volts.
^ Low or High voltage is detected for more than 500 milliseconds with a vehicle speed above 6 km/h (3.6 mph).
^ When this trouble code set the EBTCM will not disable ABS, Traction control and DRP.
^ If the voltage drops below 7 volts, the A13S and RED brake telltales are turned on and ABS, traction control, and DRP are disabled.
^ In a low voltage condition, if the voltage rises above 9.4 volts in the same ignition cycle, the ABS and RED brake telltales are turned off and ABS, traction control and DRP are re-enabled.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
Check for following conditions:
^ Poor connection or damaged harness. Inspect the wiring harness for damage. If the harness appears to be OK, observe the battery voltage display on the scan tool while moving connectors and wiring related ABS dash harness, and engine harness. A change in display will indicate the location of fault.
^ For complete information and additional diagnostics for the vehicle charging system, refer to "Charging System".
