"Squeak" or "Chirp" Noise From Front of Vehicle at 80-97 KM/H (50-60 MPH) or 2100-3000 RPM (Install Heat Shrink Tubing on Secondary Air Injection Pump Bracket Anti-Rotation Tab)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1999 Saturn vehicles with DOHC (LL0) engine and RPO Code
NC1 - California LEV
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment of a "Squeak" or "Chirp" noise from the front of vehicle while driving at 80-97 km/h (50-60 mph) or when stationary at 2100-3000 rpm.
CAUSE:
The Secondary Air Injection Pump bracket anti-rotation tab wears against the slot in the motor rail.
CORRECTION:
Install heat shrink tubing to the air injection pump bracket anti-rotation tab according to the following procedure.
PROCEDURE:
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect secondary air injection pump wiring harness connector.
2. Remove air pump outlet air hose.
3. Remove air pump bracket mounting bolts.
4. Remove air pump and bracket assembly from vehicle and place on radiator support.
5. Slide heat shrink tubing (P/N 21015251) onto the anti-rotation tab up to first bend in bracket. The opposite end of heat shrink tubing should be positioned in middle of tapered section at end of bracket.
6. Use a heat gun to uniformly heat tubing to set in place. Allow heat shrink tubing to cool before installing bracket into vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Install air pump and bracket assembly into vehicle.
2. Install and torque air pump bracket mounting bolts.
Torque: 25 N.m (18 ft-lbs)
3. Connect air pump wiring harness connector.
4. Install air pump wiring harness terminal on bracket.
