Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

1. Raise the car.
2. Remove the lower engine cover.
3. Cut the front pipe between the flex pipe and the silencer at 87 mm (see illustration). Cut the pipe at right-angles using 83 95 667 Pipe cutterhaust system.
4. Undo the nuts to the catalytic converter and remove the front pipe.
To fit
1. Clean the joint on the connecting pipe.
2. Fit the joint clamp.
3. Fit the front pipe to the catalytic converter with a new gasket and new nuts. Replace the rubber mountings if necessary.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)
4. Adjust the joint clamp so that the pipe ends are in the middle of the clamp.
5. Tighten the joint clamp nuts.
Tightening torque 40 Nm (30 lbf ft).
6. Fit the lower engine cover.
7. Lower the car.
8. Connect an exhaust hose and start the engine. Check the exhaust system for leaks.
