Airbag, Passenger (333P)
WARNING: Read through Safety and handling instructions and Before removing a control module before starting work.
To remove
WARNING: The battery's ground cable must be removed before the positive cable. Wait for at least 1 minute after disconnecting the battery before beginning any work on the airbag system. Otherwise the airbag may be deployed unintentionally and this can cause fatal/severe personal injuries.
1. Ignition in position LOCK.
2. Remove Floor console.
3. Remove the A-pillar trimon the passenger side.
4. Remove the side cover (A) of the dashboard on the passenger side.
5. Dismantle the nuts (B) securing the dashboard on the passenger side.
6. Dismantle the scuff plate and the wheel housing's inner side panel (C).
7. Remove the glove box..
8. Remove the airbag unit's bolt (A) from the steering wheel member.
IMPORTANT: Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins.
9. Release the lock on the passenger airbag connectors by pulling out the secondary catches. Unplug the airbag connectors(B).
10. Remove the MIU frame.
11. Remove the ACC unit (216).
12. Remove the center nuts (A) of the dashboard.
13. Carefully pull out the dashboard a few centimeters from the A-pillar (A) on the passenger side.
14. Remove the airbag's upper and lower nuts from the dashboard (B).
15. Carefully lift down the airbag out from the dashboard.
To fit
1. Insert the airbag and position it in the panel shell.
2. Fit the upper and lower nuts (B) of the airbag.
Tightening torque 10 Nm (8 lbf ft)
3. Screw the dashboard into position.
4. Fit the center nuts (A) of the dashboard.
IMPORTANT: Take care when plugging in the connector so as not to damage or press out the pins/sleeves in the connector.
5. Connect the airbag connectors (B). Make sure the press secondary catches into place on the connector.
6. Fit the airbag bolt (A) to the steering wheel member.
Tightening torque 5 Nm (4)
7. Refit the glove box.
8. Fit the wheel housing's inner side panel and scuff plate (C).
9. Fit the dashboard nuts (B) on the passenger side.
10. Fit the dashboard's side cover (A).
11. Fit the A-pillar's trimon the passenger side.
12. Fit the ACC unit (216).
13. Fit the MIU frame.
14. Fit Floor console.
15. Connect the battery.
16. Turn on the ignition and check the airbag system and control module with the diagnostic tool as follows:
Connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector under the dashboard. Delete any diagnostic trouble codes.
Turn the ignition OFF and then ON again. Wait at least 10 seconds with the ignition on. Check whether a diagnostic trouble code is shown:
If a diagnostic trouble code is shown:
Carry out fault diagnosis according to the instructions under respective trouble codes.
If a diagnostic trouble code is not shown:
Disconnect the diagnostic tool
17. Carry out Measures after disconnecting the battery.
