Front Cylinder Head Gasket


Front Cylinder Head Gasket

To remove
1. Remove Turbo or Turbo 4WD.

2. Remove the camshaft drive; see Camshaft drive, B284 (new version).

Only remove the intake camshaft sprocket on the front cylinder bank.

3. Remove the nut (A), bolt (B), bolts (C) and turbocharger holder (D). Move out the heat shield slightly.





4. Remove the bolts (A), slightly slacken the bolt (B) of the power steering pump bracket.





5. Remove the cylinder head bolts in the order depicted.





6. Lift off the cylinder head.

7. Clean the gasket and clean the sealing surfaces.

8. Check the sealing surfaces for damage or distortion.

To fit
1. Place a new gasket on the cylinder block.

2. Fit the cylinder head. Fit and tighten the M11 bolts in the depicted order. Use new bolts.

Tightening torque:

Stage 1: 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
Stage 2: Tighten the bolts 120°





3. Fit and tighten the M8 bolts (A).

Tightening torque:

Stage 1: 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
Stage 2: Tighten the bolts 60°





4. Fit the turbocharger holder (D), bolts (C), bolt (B) and nut (A).

Tightening torque, bolt (C): 65 Nm





5. Fit the power steering pump bracket.

Tightening torque, bolt (A) and (B): 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.)





6. Fit the camshaft drive.

7. Fit Turbo or Turbo 4WD.
