Updating the software in the engine control module

Cars in stock must be rectified before delivery.

A personal communication must be sent to the owners of cars already delivered requesting them to get in touch with the nearest Saab garage as soon as possible to have the fault rectified.

Cars affected
Saab 9-3 with engine alternative B207 (not E85) within the following Vehicle Identification Number ranges:

4D/5D: 71000001- 81006734
CV: 76000001- 86000420

NOTE: Some cars within the Vehicle Identification Number range are not affected. See separate information for the Vehicle Identification Numbers affected.

Background
The calibration of the engine control module may result in the engine receiving too much or too little fuel.

Symptom description
^ Engine is difficult to start
^ Engine does not start

Not affected.

For fitting the modification identity plate:
12 785 148 Modification identity plate

93 160 907 Cleaning agent Motip Dupli, aerosol 400 ml (sufficient for 50-100 cars)

Checking the modification identity plate
Before proceeding, check box A1 of the modification identity plate. From and including M04 the car's Warranty and Service Book contains the "Table of Modifications". A modification identity plate must be fitted in accordance with the section "Fitting the modification identity plate" where local directives require the marking of the car. If the box is not marked, continue as follows.

Procedure
1. Connect Tech2 version 131.500 or later.
2. Connect to TIS 2000 edition 2007-2 update 1 or later.
3. Update the engine control module, ECM T8, with one of the following software programs:
. B207E (150 hp): 55566775
. B207L (175 hp): 55566776
. B207R, not US/CA, (210 hp): 55566777
. For cars not normally found on your market:
B207R, US/CA, (210 hp): 55566778

4. Cars with Anti-Pinch: Learn Anti-Pinch, see WIS - 8. Body - Doors and locks - Adjustment/Replacement
5. Set date and time, see WIS - 3. Electrical system - Driver information, main instrument unit and SID - Adjustment/Replacement

Marking the modification identity plate
After carrying out the procedure, mark box A1 on the modification identity plate. From and including M04 the car's Warranty and Service Book contains the "Table of Modifications". Mark the box with the number "7" if the procedure was carried out by the importer or with the number "8" if carried out by the dealer.

Fitting the modification identity plate

NOTE: A modification identity plate must only be fitted where local directives require the marking of the car.

Fit the modification identity plate in accordance with WIS
