Description

To make it easier for the driver to reverse the vehicle towards objects, the car can be equipped with parking assistance, SPA, "Saab Parking Assistance". SPA is available as an option.

The four distance sensors use ultrasound to measure the distance to the object behind the car. They are located in the rear bumper and are named as follows:
^ Left outer distance sensor (RL)
^ Left center distance sensor (RLC)
^ Right center distance sensor (RRC)
^ Right outer distance sensor (RR)

The SPA measures and indicates the distance to the closest object behind the vehicle. A value corresponding to the distance is sent as a bus message. The MIU sends out an acoustic to the speakers in the MIU and indicates that it is active in the SID.

As the vehicle reverses closer to the object, the signals will become more frequent. In this way, the driver can avoid damage when reversing, e.g. when parking.

SPA is activated when reverse gear is engaged and is only active for as long as reverse is kept engaged. Information is sent via a bus message from UEC (342), the Underhood Electrical Center, (manual gearbox) or TCM (automatic transmission).

The control module is connected to the I-bus and is woken up by CIM with a bus message when the ignition is switched on. It is located on the left in the luggage compartment on the Rear Electrical Center, REC, (701) and is powered from there.
