Gear Change Delay

Checking the gear change delay





When the selector lever is moved from N to D or from N to R while the engine in idling, a slight jolt will be felt after a brief delay. The delay test below demonstrates the condition of the hydraulics, clutches and brakes.
1. Put chocks under all 4 wheels.
2. Apply the Handbrake fully.





3. Measure the time between the moment of moving the selector lever and the jolt.
Use a stopwatch. The delay should be:








Repeat the procedure 3 times and calculate the mean value. Wait at least 1 minute between measurements to ensure there is no residual pressure.
