Valve Housing CoverTo Remove
1. Raise the car.
2. Remove the torque arm.
3. Remove the ground cable.
4. Remove the torque arm bracket.
5. Place an oil pan under the transmission and remove the oil cooler hoses. Plug the holes and bend the hoses aside.
6. Remove the bolts from the valve housing cover.
7. Use a rubber mallet to knock the cover loose.
Fitting
1. Clean the inside of the valve housing cover. Remove all gasket remains from the contact surfaces of the cover and gearcase. Clean the sealing surfaces with cleaner 30 02 599.
2. Apply a 1 mm thick bead of sealant, part no. 87 81 841, to the cover and fit the cover to the gearcase. Apply threadlock 74 76 284 to the bolts (different lengths) and tighten the bolts in sequence.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
3. Connect the oil cooler hoses to the transmission. Use new sealing washers. Make sure the hoses do not chafe against the subframe.
4. Fit the torque arm bracket.
Tightening torque 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
5. Connect the ground cable and fit the torque arm. Tighten the bolt on the subframe, center the rubber pad and tighten the bolt on the bracket.
Tightening torque, bolt on subframe 90 Nm + 90° (66 ft. lbs. + 90°)
Tightening torque, bolt on bracket 70 Nm + 90° (52 ft. lbs. + 90°)
6. Lower the car to the floor.
7. Fill with transmission fluid to the correct level.
8. Run the transmission until warm then check the fluid level and the function of the transmission.
