Radiator Cooling Fan: Service and Repair
Radiator Fan, 4-Cyl.Warning: Do not touch the fan before unplugging the fan connectors.
To remove
1. Remove the bypass pipe and valve.
Note: There is an O-ring at the bypass pipe's attachment to the turbo intake pipe.
2. Unplug the radiator fan's connectors.
3. Loosen the clip holding the cooling system vent hose.
On cars with automatic transmission, also remove the pipes mounted on the fan cowling.
4. Undo the radiator fan retaining bolts.
5. Unhook the radiator fan's lower hooks and raise the fan slightly.
6. Move the fan slightly to one side and twist the corner up.
To fit
Note: Spray the connectors with Kontakt 61, part no. 30 04 520.
Fit in reverse order.
Tightening torques:
Bypass pipe/intake pipe, bolt: 8 Nm (5.9 ft. lbs.)
Bypass pipe, hose clip: 8 Nm (5.9 ft. lbs.)
Radiator fan: 8 Nm (5.9 ft. lbs.).
