Background
The navigation system includes a DVD disc containing map information. In order that the navigation system shall function correctly the navigation unit must be able to read the information stored on the DVD disc. Malfunctions in the navigation system may arise due to scratches on the disc for example.
In the case of customer complaint, the following procedures must be carried out.
Symptom description
Malfunctions in the navigation system, e.g.:
- The system does not execute the selected function, for example, the specification of region, address, postcode or destination
- The message "The disc installed is not a map DVD" is shown in the display
- The message "MAP DVD - Read Error" is shown in the display
- The message "Unable to calculate route" is shown in the display when a new destination is entered
- The map information shown is not correct
- Point of interest (POI) cannot be shown
- Voice control does not function correctly

Procedure
Before replacing the navigation unit, check the DVD disc as follows.
1. Remove the DVD disc from the navigation unit.
2. Examine the disc with regard to scratches.
3. If the DVD disc is scratched, replace the disc.
Note
If navigation unit replacement (see WIS 9-5 - Electrical system - Audio system with navigation - Adjustment/Replacement) is nevertheless adjudged to be necessary, fill in the form entitled "Head unit audio/navigation, test form" in order for the warranty to be valid. This form is available in WIS under "Electrical System - Audio system with Navigation - Fault diagnosis, General - Head unit audio/navigation, test form".
