Grounding Points

General
There are two main types of grounding point in the car: those that are equipped with a component number, and those where the component is grounded directly on to the chassis (e.g., temperature sensors, oil pressure sensors, etc.).

This section deals with those grounding points that have a component number.

The grounding points to which a component is connected can differ depending on whether the car is a left-hand or right-hand-drive model. This can be seen in the system diagrams.

Cables are sometimes collected in a crimp connection immediately before a grounding point. These connections will be found in the list of grounding points.

The car's battery is grounded via two cables. One cable runs to grounding point G2, which is located on the side of the left-hand structural member by the connector bracket.

Depending on engine variant, the other cable runs to the left-hand engine mounting (grounding point G25), the support bracket under the intake manifold or the starter motor lower retaining bolt (grounding point G7).

The following connections between the grounding points are not are not shown on the circuit diagrams:
1. There is a redundant ground between the engine/gearbox and one of the wheel housings.
2. Grounding point G30A is connected to grounding point G31 via crimp J1, the underhood electrical centre 342 and crimp J9/12.
3. Grounding point G3 is connected to grounding point G29 via the rear electrical centre 701.
4. Grounding point G34S is connected to grounding point G43 via crimps J108 and J80.
