Hydraulic unit, TCS/ESPImportant: ESD-SENSITIVE COMPONENT
Earth yourself by touching the car body before plugging in / unplugging components. Do not touch the component pins. Read Before removing a control module before changing a control module.
To remove
1. Fit 82 93 706 Wing cover.
2. Empty the brake system as described under Changing the brake fluid (do not fill with new fluid).
3. Remove battery and lower part of battery cover.
4. Unplug the control module.
Important: Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection.
5. Detach the brake pipes from the unit.
6. Remove the bracket and the ground lead from the spring strut tower.
Note: Remove the washer between the ground line and spacer.
7. Lift up the unit.
8. If changing the hydraulic unit: Remove the bracket from the unit.
9. Remove the bolts securing the control module to the hydraulic unit.
10. Carefully pull the control module free of the hydraulic unit.
To fit
1. Make sure the gasket is in place in the groove on the control module.
2. Press the control module into place on the hydraulic unit.
3. Fit the bolts.
Note: Tighten the bolts alternately.
Tightening torque 2.5 Nm (1.8 ft. lbs.)
4. If the hydraulic unit is changed: Fit the bracket to the unit.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lbs.)
5. Put the unit in place with guide pin in the rubber bushing.
6. Fit the screws and the ground lead to the MacPherson strut tower.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
7. Attach the brake pipes to the unit.
Tightening torque: 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)
8. Plug in the control module.
9. Fit the battery tray and the battery.
10. Fit the battery.
11. Fill with brake fluid and bleed the brake system.
12. Perform the necessary measures for after reconnecting the battery.
