Generator L Terminal Control Circuit, Short to Ground
Fault symptom
- Charging lamp on with engine running.
- Higher idling speed.
On-board diagnosis
Type of diagnosis:
- Continuous
Enable criteria:
- Engine running.
- Generator active.
Fault criteria:
- Lead between control module pin B16 and generator pin 1 (D+) short circuit to ground for more than 3 s.
(Which can be due to either the charge regulator pulling down the L terminal voltage level, to indicate a fault in the generator, or to a short circuit in the cable.)
Dependent:
P0337, P0339
System reaction to a fault:
- Control module continues working with the higher idling function.
OK report:
- Fault criteria NOT fulfilled for 61 s.
Fault handling:
- Type III without Check Engine.
(See section Fault handling III, "Other emission-related components and functions" for more information.)
Checking the wiring harness
- Move the wiring harness at several spots and in several directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short-circuits. Check switches, connectors and crimp connections for oxidation, retracted pins and pin clamping force.
