EVAP System, Fuel Level Sensor Failure and Tank Pressure Sensor Value too High
Fault symptom
- Check Engine
On-board diagnosis
Type of diagnosis:
- Once per driving cycle. Stopped when fault criteria are fulfilled or OK reported.
Enable criteria:
- Ignition ON.
- Crankshaft stationary.
- Vehicle speed 0 km/h.
- Intake air temperature higher than 0 degree C.
- Atmospheric pressure between 75 and 106 kPa.
- Tank level lower than 50 litres.
- Current tank pressure sensor value is adapted.
Fault criteria:
- Adapted value is more than 750 Pa higher than atmospheric pressure.
- A fuel level sensor fault has been detected at the same time, which makes the EVAP diagnosis unreliable.
Dependent:
- None
System reaction to a fault:
- None
OK report:
- Diagnostics carried out without fault reported.
Fault handling:
Type III
(See section Fault handling III, "Other emission-related components and functions" for more information.)
Checking the wiring harness
- Move the wiring harness at several spots and in several directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short-circuits. Check switches, connectors and crimp connections for oxidation, retracted pins and pin clamping force.
Diagnostic help
Diagnosis regards:
- Faulty fuel level sensor and tank pressure sensor.
- Resistance in cable and connectors to tank pressure sensor and fuel level sensor.
Functions in the diagnostic tool related to the fault:
Test value:
- Tank Pressure
- Pressure must be around 0 pa with ignition on.
