Generator F terminal Circuit, Open/Short to Ground
Fault symptom
- Higher idling speed.
On-board diagnosis
Type of diagnosis:
- Continuous
Enable criteria:
- Engine running.
- Engine speed under 3000 rpm.
- Generator active.
(Generator active means L Terminal high)
Fault criteria:
- Period length below 0.5% for more than 30 s.
- Generator connection for field current (DF). Originates in the internal regulator and shows the amount of period length for which the generator applies field current. Used to calculate generator torque requirement.
Dependent:
P0337, P0339
P0621, P2500, P2501
System reaction to a fault:
- Control module continues working with the higher idling function.
OK report:
- Fault criteria NOT fulfilled for 31 s.
Fault handling:
- Type III without Check Engine.
(See section Fault handling III, "Other emission-related components and functions" for more information.)
Checking the wiring harness
- Move the wiring harness at several spots and in several directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short-circuits. Check switches, connectors and crimp connections for oxidation, retracted pins and pin clamping force.
