Antitheft and Alarm Systems: Testing and Inspection



INSPECTION

BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

NOTE:
- 9-2X Aero has immobilizer.
- 9-2X Linear has no immobilizer.

INITIAL CHECK.
Check the keyless entry system.

Does the keyless entry system operate normally?

YES

NO
Check the keyless entry system.

CHECK SECURITY ON/OFF SETTING.
Remove the key from ignition switch, and then close all doors.
Press the UNLOCK button of transmitter.
Check the security indicator light blinking patterns.

Are the security indicator light blinking patterns as follows? / Model with immobilizer: Blinks in every 3 seconds / Model without immobilizer: Always off

YES

NO
Check the security indicator light circuit.

CHECK SECURITY ON/OFF SETTING.
Press the LOCK button of transmitter.
Check the security indicator light blinking patterns.

Are the security indicator light blinking patterns as follows? / When the setting of checking lag 0 seconds: Blink twice within 0.5 second in 2 seconds cycle / When the setting of checking lag 30 seconds: Blink three times within 1 second in 0.4 seconds cycle

YES

NO

CHANGE SETTING OF SECURITY SYSTEM.
Change the setting of security system to ON.

Is the setting change completed correctly?

YES

NO
- Check the ignition switch circuit.
- Check the door lock switch circuit.

CHECK SETTING CHANGE OF SECURITY SYSTEM.
Remove the key from ignition switch, and then close all doors.
Press the LOCK button of transmitter.
Check the security indicator light blinking patterns.

Are the security indicator light blinking patterns as follows? / When the setting of checking lag 0 seconds: Blink twice within 0.5 second in 2 seconds cycle / When the setting of checking lag 30 seconds: Blink three times within 1 second in 0.4 seconds cycle

YES

NO
Replace the keyless control unit.

CHECK SECURITY SYSTEM OPERATION.
Press the LOCK button on the transmitter and wait for 30 seconds.

Is the blinking pattern of security indicator light blink twice within 0.5 second in 2 seconds cycle ?

YES

NO
Replace the keyless control unit.

CHECK SECURITY ALARM OPERATION.
Unlock all doors using the door lock switch on driver's door.
Open any door, trunk or rear gate.

Does the security alarm operate when opening any door, trunk or rear gate?

YES

NO
Check the door switch.

CHECK SECURITY ALARM OPERATION.
Check the security alarm operation.

Does all security alarm operate? / Horn sounds / Hazard light blinks / Security indicator light blinks

YES

NO
- Check the horn.
- Check the hazard light.

CHECK SECURITY ALARM CANCEL OPERATION.
Press any button of transmitter while operating security alarm. Or turn the ignition switch OFF -> ON three times.

Does all security alarm stop? / Horn / Hazard light

YES

NO
Check the ignition switch circuit.

CHECK SECURITY SYSTEM CONDITION MEMORY.
Check if the system function properly when the battery is not connected temporally.

Does the system function properly when the battery is not connected temporally?

YES

NO
Replace the keyless control unit.

CHECK IMPACT SENSOR (DEALER OPTION).
Check the impact sensor.

Is the sensibility set properly?

YES
Press the UNLOCK button of transmitter, and finish the diagnosis.

NO
Adjust the sensibility.

CHECK BATTERY DISCONNECT PROTECTION

Remove the key from the ignition switch.
Close all doors and the rear gate.
Open the front hood.
Press the LOCK/ARM button of the transmitter.
Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
Reconnect the cable to the battery.
Check that the security indicator light blinks after reconnecting the battery cable.
If NG, replace the keyless entry control unit.

SECURITY SYSTEM ON/OFF SETTING

Close all doors and rear gate, sit down on the driver seat. Press the UNLOCK button of transmitter.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Press the centralized door lock switch to UNLOCK side and open the driver's door simultaneously, and maintain this state for 10 seconds.
The setting of security system (ON -> OFF) will be switched, and the horn sounds.







NOTE: Refer to the following for the ON/OFF setting of security system using Vehicle Diagnostic Interface.

CHECK SECURITY SYSTEM CONDITION MEMORY

Remove the key from ignition switch.
Close all the doors and rear gate.
Open the hood.
Press the LOCK button of transmitter.
Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
Connect the battery ground cable to battery.
Check that the security indicator light blinks twice within 0.5 seconds in 2 seconds cycle. When it does not blink, replace the keyless control unit.

CHECK FUSE

CHECK FUSE.
Remove and visually check the fuse No.2 (in main fuse box).

Is the fuse blown out?

YES
Replace the fuse with a new one

NO
Check the power supply and ground circuit.

CHECK POWER SUPPLY AND GROUND

CIRCUIT CHECK POWER SUPPLY.
Disconnect the keyless entry control unit harness connector.
Measure the voltage between the harness connector terminal and chassis ground.

(B176) No.2 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

Is the voltage more than 10 V?

YES

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the keyless entry control unit and fuse.

CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT.
Measure the resistance between the harness connector terminal and chassis ground.

(B176) No.14 - Chassis ground:

Is the resistance less than 10 ohm?

YES
The power supply and ground circuit are OK.

NO
Repair the harness.

CHECK DOOR SWITCH

CHECK DOOR SWITCH CIRCUIT.
Measure the voltage between the keyless entry control unit harness connector terminal and chassis ground when any door or rear gate is opened.

(B176) No.6 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

Is the voltage 0 V?

YES

NO

CHECK DOOR SWITCH CIRCUIT.
Measure the voltage between the keyless entry control unit harness connector terminal and chassis ground when all doors and rear gate are closed.

Is the voltage more than 10 V?

YES
The door switch is OK.

NO

CHECK DOOR SWITCH.
Disconnect the door switch harness connector.
Measure the resistance between the door switch terminals.

Terminals
Door switch No.1 - No.3:
Rear gate latch switch No.1 - No.2:

Is the resistance more than 1M ohm when door switch is pushed?

YES

NO
Replace the door switch.

CHECK DOOR SWITCH.
Measure the resistance between the door switch terminals.

Door switch No.1 - No.3:
Rear gate latch switch No.1 - No.2:

Is the resistance less than 1 ohm when door switch is released?

YES
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the keyless entry control unit and door switch.

NO
Replace the door switch.

CHECK SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT

CHECK SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT.
Disconnect the keyless entry control unit harness connector.
Ground the harness connector terminal with a suitable wire.

(B176) No.15 - Chassis ground:

Does the security indicator light illuminate?

YES
Replace the keyless entry control unit.

NO

CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT.
Disconnect the connector from the combination meter.
Measure the voltage between the combination meter harness connector terminal and chassis ground.

Is the voltage more than 10 V?

YES

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the combination meter and the fuse.

CHECK SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT.
Measure the resistance between the combination meter harness connector terminal and keyless entry control unit harness connector terminal.

(i10) No.6 - (B176) No.15:

Is the resistance less than 10 ohm?

YES
Replace the combination meter printed circuit.

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the combination meter and keyless entry control unit.

CHECK SECURITY HORN

CHECK SECURITY HORN RELAY.
Remove and check the security horn relay.

Is the security horn relay OK?

YES

NO
Replace the security horn relay.

CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR SECURITY HORN RELAY.
Measure the voltage between the security horn relay harness connector terminal and chassis ground.

(B243) No.1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

Is the voltage more than 10 V?

YES

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the security horn relay and horn relay.

CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR SECURITY HORN RELAY.
Measure the voltage between the security horn relay harness connector terminal and chassis ground.

(B243) No.2 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

Is the voltage more than 10 V?

YES

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the security horn relay and the fuse.

CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN SECURITY HORN RELAY AND KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL UNIT.
Disconnect the keyless entry control unit harness connector.
Measure the resistance between the security horn relay harness connector terminal and keyless entry control unit harness connector terminal.

(B243) No.4 - (B176) No.11:

Is the resistance less than 10 ohm?

YES

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the security horn relay and keyless entry control unit.

CHECK SECURITY HORN.
Remove and check the security horn.

Is the security horn OK?

YES
Replace the keyless entry control unit.

NO
Replace the security horn.

CHECK HAZARD LIGHT OPERATION

CHECK HAZARD LIGHT OPERATION.
Check the hazard light blinks when hazard switch is turned ON.

Does the hazard light blink?

YES

NO
Check the hazard light circuit.

CHECK KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL UNIT OUTPUT SIGNAL.
Remove the key from ignition switch.
Open the driver's window, and then close all doors and rear gate.
Lock all doors with the transmitter or door lock switch to arm the security system.
Unlock all doors with the door lock switch.
Measure the voltage between the keyless entry control unit harness connector terminal and chassis ground when any door is open.

(B176) No.14 - Chassis ground:

Is the voltage 1 - 4 V?

YES
Check the harness for open or short between keyless entry control unit and turn signal lights.

NO
Replace the keyless entry control unit.

CHECK INTERRUPT RELAY CIRCUIT

CHECK INTERRUPT RELAY.
Remove and check the interrupt relay.

Is the interrupt relay OK?

YES

NO
Replace the interrupt relay.

CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR INTERRUPT RELAY.
Measure the voltage between the interrupt relay harness connector terminal and chassis ground.

(B422) No.5 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

Is the voltage more than 10 V when ignition switch is turned to START?

YES

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the interrupt relay and ignition switch.

CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN INTERRUPT RELAY AND KEYLESS ENTRY CONTROL UNIT.
Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
Disconnect the keyless entry control unit harness connector.
Measure the resistance between the interrupt relay harness connector terminal and keyless entry control unit harness connector terminal.

(B422) No.1 - (B176) No.12:

Is the resistance less than 10 ohm?

YES
Replace the keyless entry control unit.

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the interrupt relay and keyless entry control unit.

CHECK IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT

CHECK IGNITION SWITCH SIGNAL.
Disconnect the keyless entry control unit harness connector.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Measure the voltage between the harness connector terminal and chassis ground.

(B176) No.10 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

Is the voltage more than 10 V?

YES
Ignition switch circuit is OK.

NO
Check the harness for open circuits and shorts between the keyless entry control unit and ignition switch.
