Cooling Fan 3 Control Circuit, Open/Short To Ground







Fault symptom
Radiator fan malfunction.
No A/C function.
Limp home

On-board diagnosis

Type of diagnosis:
Continuous

Enable criteria:
Battery voltage must be between 11 - 16 V.
Engine running.
Output is not active.

Fault criteria:
When voltage on the output is below 2.0 V for more than 1 s.

Dependent
None

System reaction to a fault:
Switches off output to A/C relay.
Engine torque limitation (which is a function of vehicle speed, intake air temperature and number of incorrect fan stages).

OK report:
Fault criteria NOT fulfilled for 5 s.

Fault handling:
Type III without Check Engine.

Checking the wiring harness
Move the wiring harness at several spots and in several directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short-circuits. Check switches, connectors and crimp connections for oxidation, retracted pins and pin clamping force.
