Engine Coolant Temperature Malfunction.

Fault symptom
CHECK ENGINE
Incorrect temperature gauge reading.

On-board diagnosis

Type of diagnosis:
Once per driving cycle.

Enable criteria:
Battery voltage must be between 11 - 16 V.
None of the following DTCs must be detected: P0115, P0117, P0118 and P0119.
Engine running.
Atmospheric pressure below 725 kPa (105 PSI).
Intake air temperature must exceed -6 degree C (21 degree F).
Coolant temperature higher than -6 degree C (21 degree F).
Coolant temperature lower than 65 degree C (149 degree F).
If vehicle speed exceeds 140 km/h (87 mph), diagnostics will be cancelled and not restart until next driving cycle.
The calculated substitute value for coolant temperature must not exceed 80 degree C.
If the time it takes to increase temperature to 80 degree C (calculated substitute value) consists of 55% idling, diagnostics is interrupted.

Fault criteria:
When the difference between the calculated substitute value and the average value of the temperature sensor is outside of the interval -7 degree C - 30 degree C. Average value is calculated using a time period of 200 s.

Dependent:
P0112, P0113
P0115, P0119
P0117, P0118

System reaction to a fault:
-

Fault handling:
Type III
(See Description of On-Board Diagnostics/Fault handling III, "Other emission-related components and functions" for more information.)
