Steering Wheel: Service and Repair


Steering Wheel
To remove

Warning: Read the safety and handling instructions for the Airbag (SRS) before starting work. Refer to Restraint Systems, Air Bag Systems

Important: Ensure the wheels are pointing straight ahead before dismantling begins.

1. Turn the ignition to OFF.





2. Remove the airbag from the steering wheel, 2 plugs and screws.
3. Lift out the airbag and unplug the connector.

Important: The steering wheel often comes loose suddenly from the cone and there is a risk that the contact roller and leads can fasten to the steering wheel and be damaged.

4. Undo the steering wheel nut but leave it on the last few threads. Pull the steering wheel to this point.

Warning: Never use the steering column adjustment to knock loose the steering wheel, as this will damage the impact joint.

5. Remove the nut and carefully lift off the steering wheel.

To fit
1. Make sure the wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Put the steering wheel in place.





3. Fit the steering wheel nut and tighten it.
Tightening torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.).
4. Plug in the connectors and fit the airbag module in the steering wheel with two screws and plugs.
