Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair



Temperature Sensor, Engine Coolant

WARNING: Be careful if the car is warm. The coolant is hot and there
is a risk of burns from the intake manifold.

To remove
1. Carefully loosen the cap on the expansion tank (to release any pressure) and then screw it on again.







2. Unplug the connector and remove the sensor using a 19 mm dog-leg spanner.

To fit







1. Fit the sensor. Lubricate the threads with vaseline (part no. 30 20 271) or equivalent. Fit a new sealing washer as necessary. Spray the connector with Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 04 520) and connect it to the sensor.
Tightening torque 13 Nm (9.6 lbf ft)
2. Top up with coolant as necessary after fitting.
Start the engine. Make sure there are no leaks. Top up with coolant as necessary
