SID, ICM, CU and DVD - fault symptom1. SID - display goes black periodically
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to VIN 51007446
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to VIN 56001848
Background:
Due to faulty parameters in ICM, the SID display can go black periodically.
Procedure:

Background:
Communication problems between ICM and SID can generate double text in the SID display.
Procedure:
M03 - M04: Remove and refit fuse 14 in the dashboard fuse box
M05: Update ICM software.
Note:
New software has been introduced during the course of M05 as shown.
3. SID - No information on fuel consumption and/or DTE (Distance To Empty)
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) Diesel
Background:
If ICM was adjusted incorrectly previously, information on fuel consumption and/or DTE may go missing. It is extremely important that the correct option for auxiliary heater be chosen during "Add ICM".
Procedure:
Check whether the car is equipped with an auxiliary heater. Carry out "Add" ICM with Tech2.
4. SID - DTE incorrectly indicates 2501 km/154 miles when the tank is full and fuel consumption is normal
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to VIN 41018847
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to VIN 46006281
Procedure:
Update ICM software. Not currently available for US/CA.
Note:
New ICM software was introduced as of VIN 41018846 (4D) and 46006281 (CV).
5. SID - Improved functionality of DTE
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) M05
Background:
To prevent customers from running out of gas, a new action has been introduced to the DTE function.
Note:
For M05 cars, DTE has been changed from indicating possible distance with fuel remaining down to 0 km, to displaying a text message in SID, with advice to refuel, when DTE is below 30 km (19 miles).
The text is language dependent and is available in the variants shown.
This text message disappears after filling up with fuel when the DTE is calculated to be >50 km (31 miles).
New software has been introduced during the course of M05 as shown.
6. SID - Improved safety margin of DTE
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to 51025713 with 58-litre tank
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to 56005830 with 58-litre tank
Background:
A better safety margin has been introduced in the system to prevent the car from running out of gas.
Procedure:
Carry out "Add" ICM with Tech2.
Note:
New EOL software for ICM introduced as of VIN 51025714 (4D) and 56005831 (CV).
7. ICM 3 - Display's anti-reflective coating flakes off
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) up to VIN 41018847
Background:
Poor adhesion can cause the display surface to look damaged (scratched/patchy).
Procedure:
Replace ICM.
Note:
New improved ICM introduced as of VIN 41018848.
8. ICM 3 navigation - Incorrect indication of position
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440)
Background:
A hardware fault in the antenna can cause the navigation system to receive an incorrect GPS signal. The symptom is incorrect indication of car position on the screen.
Procedure:
Replace the GPS antenna.
Note:
New improved GPS antenna introduced as of VIN 41027395 (4D).
9. ICM 3 - Irritating lines appear on the display
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440)
Background:
A display error can cause thick, irritating lines and/or flickering.
Procedure:
Replace the ICM display.
Note:
New ICM 3 (part no. 12761290) introduced as of VIN 51020016 (4D) and 56005205 (CV).
New ICM 3 (part no. 12761291) introduced as of VIN 51019833 (4D) and 56005034 (CV).
10. ICM 3 navigation - System restarts
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) M05
Background:
ICM3 restarts while driving (Loading System" appears on the display).
Procedure:
Update ICM software (VIP and OCP).
Note:
New ICM 3 (part no. 12761290) introduced as of VIN 51020016 (4D) and 56005205 (CV).
New ICM 3 (part no. 12761291) introduced as of VIN 51019833 (4D) and 56005034 (CV).
11. ICM 3 navigation - Function freezes
Cars affected:

Background:
While driving, the entire navigation display freezes and there are no further updates.
12. SIDC - A reduction in the rheostat value causes button illumination for the hazard warning flashers to go out
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) M05
Background:
If the driver sets the rheostat value to the lowest level while the Night Panel function is in use, the button illumination for the hazard warning flashers may go out.
Procedure:
Carry out "Add" ICM with Tech2.
Note:
New software has been introduced during the course of M05 as shown.

Procedure:
Replace SIDC. Check the read values using Tech2.
Note:
New SIDC introduced as of VIN 51045031 (4D) and 56012930 (CV).
14. Voice control
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) M05
Background:
There are two types of voice control:
a. Standard (CU is the governing electronic unit)
b. AVR, Advanced Voice Recognition, (ICM3 is the governing electronic unit)
It is vital that the correct voice guidance parameter be selected during "Add" ICM3 and CU. Otherwise, only one unit (ICM3 or CU) is activated for voice control. If, for example, CU is set to "Standard" and ICM3 is set to AVR there is a conflict in the system and neither type of voice control is operable.
Note:
AVR language update is part of the pre-delivery inspection (PDI).
